Edward de Bono is regarded by many as the leading international authority on creative thinking and the direct teaching of thinking skills. He developed The Six Thinking Hats® in 1985 having already invented the term ‘Lateral Thinking’.

The underlying principle behind The Six Thinking Hats is that parallel thinking is significantly more productive than adversarial thinking, argument or debate. There are six different coloured, imaginary/metaphorical hats that can be put on or taken off. Each hat represents a different type or mode of thinking.
