Proposal Writer Definition

The Bid / Proposal Writer will create custom sections of proposal text. Typically, this will be to answer specific requirements that are both technical and non technical in nature. Compelling responses will require information to be compiled from a number of different sources and to be presented in a logical manner, using effective prose and reflecting the key themes and sales messages that the bid document must convey. The Proposal Writer will often provide editing and maintenance support for a library of pre-written proposal content.

Qualifications

Typically degree educated and accredited to APMP Foundation / Practitioner Level.
Minimum 2-3 years experience in a professional writing environment

Key Skills / Competences

Outstanding proposal writing skills – ability to turn ‘raw information’ into fabulously articulated proposal content
Advanced MS Word skills & proficient in MS Office
Time management / prioritisation skills
Ability to coach sales teams and subject matter experts in persuasive writing and writing best practice

The Proposal Writer will ideally have the following key behavioural characteristics: An ability to function effectively in a specialised, expert role with a preference for working within a structured and supervised environment; a positive predilection towards very precise, detailed tasks; a strong propensity to analyse ideas/projects/tasks; an aptitude to be a supportive participator in a team situation; and a capacity for responding to a sometimes varied, sometimes routine workload.

           is extremely conscientious
           is good with detail and takes his/her duties seriously
           is a perfectionist, wanting to check everything personally to make sure it is done right
           is very logical, task orientated and analytical
           will think through a problem and weigh the pros and cons
           makes decisions on facts rather than on emotions
           tends to be accepting, cautious and deliberate in approach
           can work with routine and yet still show a sense of urgency at times
